Yes, it's a children's book. And yes, it's marketed with trading cards and an online game. A few reviews on Amazon will tell you that it's a horrible commercial enterprise designed to force you into buying cards in order to enjoy the books. Well, it's not. Sure, Jason's bought a few card packs, but he would have bought Yugioh or Pokemon cards with his money anyways!
I enjoyed the book, and felt that it was totally appropriate for Jas. He devoured the book, there was no need to remind him that he needed to read that night.
As for me, I thought it was fun and light. It's a little like sitting down to watch Kim Possible with the kids! Light and easy, but good clean entertainment.
